The Crane city of Mura Sabishii Toshi is once again a seat of growing prosperity after being ravaged in a Crab/Crane border conflict. It’s governess is an important figure, whose opinion carries a lot of weight even in the courts of the Capital, and her favor is desired by the Emerald Bureaucracy.

It should have been a simple, even boring social visit, but an impossible-to-please noble and a ruined meal put Magistrate Torokai’s assembled team in a much more interesting position, with surprisingly high stakes.

As it turns out, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.  The magistrate’s investigation into Battle’s Respite has uncovered some dark sinister blood magic that has brought back the village samurai as a terrible tainted puppet controlled by blood magic.  The village must be purified.  Or maybe Kituski should just use his sword.

The magistrates have managed the rescue of the young Otomo and broken up a local poppy operation.  However justice calls, and they now head to the small town of Battle’s Respite, greeted by large plumes of smoke.  Just another day in the life.

A group of magistrates are called to The Gentle Blossom by nobleman Otomo Soujin, whose son Kokari has been kidnapped by the local Yakuza thugs for a huge ransom.  With no way to bring the police in on this issue, he called in enforcers that the criminals will not immediately recognize.
