Gobblin’ – Kings of the Rings at Gen Con 2018

GOBBLIN IS NOW LIVE ON DTRPG!  BUY MY BOOK!

This is the story of the goblins from one of the villages of Mudhole. There are many Mudholes out there, and this is one pretty interchangeable with the rest. One evening, there was a knock at their cabin door.  The goblins are charged with taking a “magic ring of great importance” that will save hundreds of goblin lives. This could be the opportunity to do what few goblins have done before: be useful and care about other goblins. Failing that, the local chief will have plenty of bribes and/or threats to throw at them to force them into saving the world.  Will they finish their quest?  Will they remember they have a quest to begin with?  Listen in and find out!

Gobblin’ – The True Spirit of Goblin Day

It’s that time of year again (probably). When it starts getting cold, that’s when every goblin that remembers celebrates Goblin Day, a time to eat and relax and reflect on… where did we come from again?

The party lives in Mauler, a former human shopping mall where the goblins have settled inside various stores as their homes. It’s large and sturdy for what goblins are used to (compared to huts and rubble), so life has been pretty cushy here.

Red Markets at Gen Con 2018

The military controlled enclave is home to the First Bank of the Loss, started as an effort for small-time loan sharks to cut their leg breaking overhead. Lenders from Trabajo, Cheyenne, and Middle Distance created a network of standards and shared biometric-based background checks to cut down on fleeing borrowers. The Bank continues to grow, including into some slave-economy enclaves where delinquent borrowers can work off their debt. Recently, the bank has shifted focus towards improving their day-to-day operating standards, and need a Taker crew to retrieve a laminating machine from an abandoned DMV office.  The Telluride Funeral Services company has been called to retrieve that printer.  Just another day at the office.

MaOCT – Nightlight Harbor at Gen Con 2017

It’s a Friday night for Anthony Redhorn, Doug Price, and Alpha Torres.  In their circle, that means it’s time to pop up some fresh hot corn and pop an awful film into the DVD player.  Tonight’s movie is something Anthony special ordered from the web a few weeks back: Nightlight Harbor, A low budget kids show from the early eighties involving pirates.  Playing the disc, there appear to be numerous issues with the playback quality, but surely that comes with the territory of bootleg discs.

Adapted from one of the later sessions of our Road Trip campaign, this scenario has been changed into a standalone for con games, and was tested at this Gen Con on some genre savvy players.

Gobblin’ Playtest at Gen Con 2017

Goblins fight for survival on top of a truck

After years in development and editing, we at the Drunk and the Ugly finally debuted the playtest draft of our new game Gobblin’: The Goblin RPG at Gen Con 2017. If you’re interested in playtesting this game, send an email to thedrunkandtheugly@gmail.com

In the world of magic and dragons, knights and treasure, elves and trolls, there lived a race called goblins. Goblins were intelligent enough to cause trouble, but stupid enough to lack any foresight or responsibility for their actions. They were curious and greedy enough to want everything they saw, but too lazy to work for it and too cowardly to take it. Their wasteful lifestyle ruined the environment all around them, breeding like cockroaches until they were forced to expand further.

The wisest of races gathered and agreed they were a major nuisance on their world’s economy, environment, and all life around them. The goblins had to be dealt with severely. Rather than waste the manpower and resources in an all-out war, the highest magi and sages created a spell that banished them from their world, hurling every living goblin from their reality. The entirety of the goblin race landed in another time in an alternate dimension, one stripped of almost all sentient life.

There were no humans in this world, only the remains of their work. The world had been ravaged by war, with the goblins stranded among the rubble of mankind. Realizing what had happened (several minutes after they arrived and their brains caught up to speed), the goblins all cheered out as one. They believed this was their reward for living their happy lives well enough that some god or wizard or giant in a funny hat had granted them an entire world full of free food and interesting things that exploded when you poked them right. There was no one to lord over them or slay them just for the experience of it all. After centuries of hanging at the bottom of the food chain (just above blue slimes and kobolds), a nuclear holocaust turned out to be the best thing that had ever happened for them.

Note: This is a con game and is next to some very rowdy boys so the noise levels are a bit high early on.  This clears off as the recording continues.
