Hi again internet! Yes, yes I realize that today is not actually the 13th. That was the day we recorded this wonderment AND IT SHALL STAND IN THIS POST.
What’s coming up, some of you may ask. In the not-to-distant future, not much. We will start posting United We Stand, a Sordid Dystopia campaign run by Charlie, on Friday.
Soon I will have edited up an interview we did for Sci-Fi Lab, a radio show hosted byTravis Gasque. It plays 7 – 8 every Thursday on 91.1 FM WREK Atlanta. Our interview is playing live there if you want to listen to it on the wireless (well not live, but live to tape). You can either listen over the air or check it out Sci-Fi Lab’s website.
Just in case anyone missed it, we’re having a Kickstarter to fund the publication of Nate’s game Sordid Dystopia sometime in mid to late January. We’re still working out the specifics of the rewards, but it will likely include:
- A PDF version of the playtest rules
- 11 Preview APs (including future Frieda’s sessions and a whole MaOCT mini-campaign)
- Games run by The Drunk and the Ugly (of which include Sam, Matt, Nate, and Charlie)
- Scenarios written and run by The Drunk and the Ugly
- MORE FUN STUFF
Also we spend roughly 45 minutes of this episode answering questions from listeners. Thanks a lot for writing in, guys! You helped make this all possible.

Okay, so I haven’t commented in a while, but I LOVE the newsies section guys! While listening I jotted down some of my initial thoughts, so sorry if they seem a little everywhere!
– BuiBui is 1001, 1001 spiders. She has control over 1001 individual groups of 1001 different spider breeds. And the 1001 eggs per spider.
– You get boys talking about swords for too long and the whole recording falls apart.
– HEY SHUT UP I’M NOT THE ONLY SHIPPER FANGIRL HERE.
– If Emma/George happens doesn’t that also technically involve Emma/Condor? Does Condor watch? Give pointers? This isn’t a real question please don’t answer it.
– OH HEY THERES MY VOICE. I’m sad I don’t get in on these. Too bad I was doing my womanly duty of cleaning nayt’s gross boxers. That sound was of me struggling to get the heavy laundry through the door and trying to keep the cat inside while nayt watched.
– Emma/Manny would end horribly. Just throwing that out there right now. Actually Nayt and I have seldom made characters that would do well romantically. A few here and there, sure, but our IRL romance doesn’t bleed through our characters as much as you’d think.
– WHY IS MANNY THE CENTRAL PEG IN THIS MALE SHIPPING CHART? Is it because he sounds so feminine? What about Scogust?
– Sam, in your animu battlefield scenario, Nele couldn’t look into Manny’s eyes. His hair would sparkle or something.
– Nayt, you are terrible at being elitist.
– HEY NAYT. WAY TO ANSWER FOR ME, YOU DICK.
It’s true. I’ve not done commissions for some time. But remember, I’m trying to break into the illustration biz, so commissions are some pretty excellent practice for working with a client and drawing for money. I would be interested in things like that, despite the presumed laziness that makes up my aura.
Yeah, it’s true. Everett and Daniel are our only two characters made in the last few years that actually sync up romantically–and even then, the romance is tenuous at best.
Also, sorry! I was just going based on what you’ve previously said before! I didn’t know you were interested in doing commissions again. I rescind my statements from this segment.
. . . wait, why did I post that here? You’re right in the other room. I could have just walked in and apolo–oh goddamnit, not again.
“Sam, in your animu battlefield scenario, Nele couldn’t look into Manny’s eyes. His hair would sparkle or something.”
I was thinking the same thing when that came up.
I imagine Nele would then turn into a car, which Manny would drive out of the weird, metaphorical landscape that was once Mrs. Frieda’s as they flew away into a land of happiness and joy.
So Nele is the Kirby to Manny’s Prince Fluff?
Really? A Kirby’s Epic Yarn reference? Charlie even I think that’s pretty gay
^^^ Kirby is a manly game for MEN!
Is there nothing you guys can’t derail? I mean you just derailed a comment thread on your own site. Now I’ve seen everything.
By the way. I played part one if the interview tonight (12/15/2011). It will be up on our website for two weeks.
Actually, I was going to Adolescence of Utena… but Kirby works too. Though, now that you mention it, I suppose those two are pretty similar… :p
Apparently there is no Scougust love outside our group. I’ve suggested it a couple times before.
Thanks for answering my question. I’m not a huge Spirit of the Century fan. I dislike the lack of advancement and the general setting. I looked at the Pirates game for our steampunk airship-tastic campaign we did last year, but ended up going with Legends of Anglerre. That was my favorite FATE flavor for a long time til Strands of Fate swept our gaming group of its feet.
Okay, I have a few more questions.
What are some of your favorite game systems?
What are some aspects of game systems that you really like and which do you dislike?
What was your first game system and how was your experience?
Thanks again guys.
Ooh, those are some good ones, David! With questions like those, we may need to start up the main podcast again 😀
Its short for Samuel but I’m called Sam for several reasons ironically enough one of does reasons mirrors a one Dr. Jones. I have horrendous grammar, but then you talk to me and your impression is this guy has to have some major English course by the way he can make words be like honey…
I should stop writing these at midnight so yeah sorry for that, I hate being an insomniac.
Fine then I’ll take Nate #70
Sorry guys that will be for next time. I couldn’t do a complete list so I only did Emma to see just how silly you guys are
Scougust won’t work even by silly standards that’s pushing it.
Eclipse Phase is fun. Yes I did give you the link to the Pokemon Tabletop Adventures. Its 360pages, the Gm’s guide is 40or so and the final one is just pokemon stats.
Thanks Nate! I wasn’t asking you to translate actually sorry if that appeared to be it.
Well that would be nice thanks guys! Sorry Sean your not my type.
No Festival as in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoT9qVxuL-U
Are loveable ‘King in Yellow’
Normal in Maid by its standards and even playing just normal people. The Mutants and Masterminds part refers to how do I put this as civilians they were fine. But in costume I believe the best way to describe the actions taken would be as ‘Chaotic Neutral’ to ‘Evil’
No I mean the Road Trip session with each character being half Charlie half someone else…
Thanks for the ideas and other suggestions.
Thanks for answering the questions well not making me look like a idiot for my bad grammar among other things.
I was hoping for something outside of the Kick-start because I’m broke. But if I can I’ll try to help somehow.
More questions eventually just to hear Sean stumble over my horrid writing.
Also I claim this episode in the name of Sam! Myself not your Sam.
Will we ever hear the true origin of Manny in a podcast? Why is he what he is, who were his parent(s), and how did Uncle V find him (or just his actual uncle)? If not, what is it? Can’t even find it on the wiki
No spoilers, but some of the answers to your questions are coming to light in the games we’re playing right now. So eventually, you’ll know!
Must resist urge to pretend to be Sam and say stop living not our Sam must resist… Ok I’m good and that’s nice to know
And on the next episode of The Drunk and the Ugly . . .
An abominable plot.
“Those roleplayers will never see it coming!”
A horrible turn for the worse.
“Charlie! We have thirty minutes to disarm the bomb or all of San Diego will sink into the sea!”
And Matt must make a terrible decision that could change the lives of the Drunk and the Ugly forever.
“Shoot him, I’m the real Sam!”
“No, don’t shoot! I’m the real Sam!”
I’ve got a question for Nayt. (By the way is it Nate or Nayt? I’ve seen it spelled both ways on the site)
During the interview I had with you guys, you mentioned how you did a lot of research to help get into the mind set of a little girl. I have a horror story I plan to enter into a writing competition, but I can’t tell if I wrote the main character childish enough. I’ve done some research, (watch Coraline for the kid in a creepy/scary place feel, rewatched some old Nicktoons, listened to/watched some current kids shows, watched some kid’s movies I remember being scary as a kid), but I still can’t tell if I did it right. Is there anything else you could suggest that might help? (I’m split cause half my creative writing group liked it and thought it was scary/creepy. The other half either didn’t get it or didn’t like it. They didn’t tell me.)
I guess Sam and Matt could field this question too since both do good horror.
“Neight” is also correct. : )
Characterization is a pretty fun topic, though. I look forward to this’un!
another question has sprung to mind. we’ve had some mention of everyone in the Roadtrip game’s parent’s except for Max and Donnie’s (maybe Doug’s…). We know they live with Honorable Grandfather, but any intended explanation of where his parents are, or just kind of an unspoken fact that they’re deceased?
