The Drunk and the Newsies 6-3-2012

HELLO EVERYBODY HOW ARE YOU DOING?!  WE ARE DOING GREAT HERE FROM THE CENTER OF THE HURRICANE KNOWN AS NATE’S FAN CONSTANTLY BLOWING IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE RECORDING!

HERE IS NEWS BIRD WITH THE NEWS:

You asked for it, so we gave it to you:  The Drunk and the Ugly Forums!  Now you can jump in and talk to other Drunk and Ugly listeners and troll everyone.

Second News!  Sordid Dystopia:  Still being worked on.  Sam is now working two different jobs and Nate just finished moving into a new house.  Things are still coming along and we are working to give you the best book we possibly can.

Today’s Topic:  Character creation, how does it work?

This is how it works.  Done.

But no, seriously, this is a topic that we manage to cover with a lot of detail and a lot of different methods.  There’s too much discussed in the show to write down here, but I will link all the different resources listed in the program:

  • Fake Name Generator – Probably the most-used tool here on our show for creating names and personalities for PCs and NPCs alike.
  • Gelbooru (NSFW), Safebooru – Both are great repositories of images with pretty good tagging set up in the case that you have a vague image in mind for a character and zero artistic abilities (like myself)
  • Character Hub (Beta) – A filing cabinet for up to 100 characters (presently) with options for portraits, stats, and personality questionnaires for all of your different beautiful and unique snowflakes.
  • Incompetech’s Royalty Free Music Library – Complete works of Kevin MacLeod.  All created under the Creative Commons license, great for Podcasting and anything that needs a royalty-free soundtrack.

The Drunk and the Newsies – 11/29/2012

Hello there internet!

It’s been a while since last we spoke, but I can assure you we are here and we are back with more (and hopefully regular) news!

First off, Sordid Dystopia, that wondrous book we talked about publishing almost a year ago:  Editing and layouts are done, and we’re currently hiring artists to fill this with all the beautiful pictures of EVERYTHING.

Secondly, our forums are running long and strong, for going on half a year now.  We’re building up a community slowly but surely, and have a solid section of Forum Roleplay, Play-by-post, and actual Skype Games.  The community has been building up a large selection of APs as well, so be sure to check those out if you want Drunker and Uglier goodness!  Additionally, starting this month, we are going to start polling for what future episodes people want to see up on the site.  The first poll will be up soon (if it isn’t already)  and the winner will be posted by the end of the month.  Our plan is to continue this every month to give the listenership what they want a little earlier.

Our topic for today:  Inspiration.  Where do we draw it from and how do we use it?  Listen in and get some ideas of your own, and learn how to rip off others correctly.

References made in the show that we promised to link

Everything is a Remix – A history of taking, breaking down, combining and rebuilding creatively.

Night’s Black Agents – The game where you can kill lots of vampires and take down vampire conspiracies.

Vote for the End of the Month Actual Play! – Hop over to our forms and vote in that poll.

The Drunk and the Newsies – 1/9/2013

YO INTERNET, WASSUP?!

Look, it’s only been a month since last we posted!  WE CAN DO THIS MONTHLY POSTING THING!  Also thanks to Sean for our shiny intro!

First off, we recently finished Monster ISS, we’re going to post a short Little Fears interlude by Charlie, followed by Prominence, SC, a street-level Batman-inspired Wild Talents campaign.

Secondly, your voice was heard last month, leading to The Devil’s Bazaar being posted.  There is a new poll up with NEW OPTIONS!  SIGN UP AND VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!

  • SkyMaul – Run by Matt.  This is a 99 cent module written by Shane Ivey. It involves antics on a plane.
  • The Longest Night of Your Life – Run by Sam.  This is part three of the campfire tales. Children try to go to sleep and find they are unable to. Horror ensues.
  • Crossover Megamix! – Run by Sam.  This is a Complete Bull$#!@ game that was originally going to be run in Rifts. Every character from every game we have played thus far shows up at some point in this (I think). It is. . . impressive.
  • Transatlantic – Run by NO ONE.  A Fiasco! game we played with Joshua Chichester at the end of the last Drunk and Ugly Con.
  • Ichor Falls: Prelude – Run by Sam.  A Little Fears adventure set in 1986, based on Kris Straub’s Ichor Falls.

Our topic for today:  Long-form game design.  How do you write campaigns or mini-campaigns?  Hell, I don’t know, but this is a clear approximation of everything.

This Week on Drunk and Ugly Let’s Play

imscared.exe with Hannah

imscared.exe – A Pixelated Nightmare is a bizarre, short, and incredibly immersive horror game by Ivan Zanotti.  It makes use of a very small amount of resources to do the most I’ve seen of many games.

Papers, Please! Part 1 – GLORY TO ARSTOTZKA

Papers, Please! is an empathy game of sorts created by Lucas Pope.  It is described as a “Dystopian Document Thriller.”

The communist state of Arstotzka has ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin.

Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists. Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission’s primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.
