The crew of the Fantoma Reine has seen a lot in their journeys, and finally they have a moment to rest and recover from the perils of a few months on the high seas.  Declan’s family has been relocated to the empty manor house in Canguin, the Fey have thoroughly dissected Captain Valentin and uncovered a source for his Black Strands: his heart is freezing as a result of his hatred.  Before he can take time to resolve that, however, the crew receives word of an auction in Vendel for a particular Syrneth artifact that seems to be part of a larger one.  With 3 parts of the Map in hand, the crew heads out to try and pick up the last one.

Getting a planet back has turned out to be much more difficult than Faydra Ramirez expected.  In their search of a distant planet, the captain and crew of the Brilliant Resolve are finding themselves deep in ruins surrounded by odd mechanical beetles.  They appear to be odd carrion feeders of both flesh and cybernetics.  Mysteries of the ancient ruins deepen.

After a harrowing battle with Kheired-Din and , the crew of the Fantoma Reine has to take time taking aboard the survivors of the Strange Skies and slaves who kept it moving.  Among the captured are highly valued members of the Corsairs, which Captain Valentin realizes can be used as bargaining chips in negotiating for others captured by vicious pirate group.

Additionally, Declan makes arrangements for his family to be relocated to a much more secure location after the last few adventures have made it quite apparent that his time on this ship have accrued him a large number of enemies.

In the year 40,000, all is war.  The Koronus Expanse is under attack from all angles by beings that want to destroy all organic matter from the system out of a need for sustenance or merely from spite.  Under such assault, the Imperium of Man cannot adequately meet all threats and thus contracts work out to Rogue Traders.  In the inside edge of the Expanse, we find one such trader, Faydra Ramirez, standing trial for the crime of Imperial Heresy.

After a swift motion to an acquittal of Imperial Heresy but a conviction for smaller heretical acts, Ramirez finds herself one planet poorer, at great loss to the family fortune.  A silver lining appears to Faydra and the crew of the castle-like Brilliant Resolve, when the new owner of the planet contacts her and says she may have it back if she does him one small favor. . .
