Mrs Frieda’s 71: Scott’s Odyssey Part 1 – The Cyclops

hiddenguybanner

Mrs. Frieda’s Halfway Home for Terrible and Freakish Children makes its triumphant return with Season 4: Scott’s Odyssey.

When we last left our heroes, they had been torn asunder by internal strife and relationship drama. Now, Scott, Manny, Emma, Nele, and Eld are off into the great frozen yonder: Alaska. Somewhere out there is a family for a certain Bird-Boy, and it’s up to the kids to make the long journey to her door.

First step? Finding a bus that will take them to Alaska.

  1. Man, the whole time The Navajo Hot Dog stand guy was talking I wanted to hear “Here are your hot dogs, welcome to Arstotzka.”

A great comeback to the Friedaverse session.

  2. I’m glad that Frieda’s is back, and especially glad that I discovered you guys at a point when, by the time I had caught up, I didn’t have to wait three months for the campaign to continue. I do however have a question: Is there a missing session? There are references to events that I don’t remember occurring, like Manny sleeping out in the snow and being found by Eld, and I guess I’m a bit confused. I also did some sleuthing, and on Nele’s character sheet, in between Exile Vilify and Cyclops there’s a session called Everything is pretty much fucked. It has him putting +1 to his relationship with Eld, which would match up to the events referenced that I don’t recall, namely the events that lead to him waking up in Eld’s room this session. So, I guess what I’m asking is, is there some sort of lost episode? Or am I just being dense, and somehow can’t find it? Or some sort of third option?
Oh, and goodness me. This is the second episode in a row that I’ve a block of text full of questions. I’ll try not to make it a habit.

    1. It sounds like you skipped Episode 69, which has the official title of “Scott’s Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day.” (Also maybe Episode 70: The Quest for Condor, though that game doesn’t have direct bearing on this one just yet, I think.)

It’s been a while since we played and a while since I’ve edited, but I’ll answer some questions here.

There are references to events that I don’t remember occurring, like Manny sleeping out in the snow and being found by Eld, and I guess I’m a bit confused.

I think that happens in Episode 68: Exile Vilify. George and Caleb admit to being part of the Wild Dog Army and Manny decides he doesn’t want to stay in a room with either of them. He runs off into the woods and sleeps alone in a tree, where Mann finds him and gives him something in his sleep. Eld finds him (I think) and convinces him to try and forgive at least one of them. Or it was Caleb. I really don’t remember that one so well now.

there’s a session called Everything is pretty much fucked. It has him putting +1 to his relationship with Eld, which would match up to the events referenced that I don’t recall, namely the events that lead to him waking up in Eld’s room this session.

I wouldn’t take the things on character sheets as particularly true to chronological events. I think Exile Vilify and “Everything is Fucked” were smashed together into Episode 68 because neither of them were too long on their own.

Anyway, thanks for listening! If you have more questions, feel free to sign up on the forums (where we have a lot of threads dedicated to the posting of these games).

      1. Thanks for the response(s), they pretty much clear everything up. Good to know that I didn’t actually miss anything.

      2. Yeah, no I think Jake’s right. I just listened to “Exile Villify”, “Scott’s Terrible No Good Very Bad Day”, and “Quest For Condor” and there’s no sign of that scene. “Exile Villify” ends on George, Caleb, and Etsu right after Manny left Caleb’s house, then “Scott’s TNGVB Day” jumped right into Scott babysitting the kids while Emma ran interference with the attendants, and “Quest For Condor” started out with George at Etsu’s house and a brief moment where Manny is with Caleb.

Exile Villify does end with the group talking about another session, which they apparently recorded after the cut, ending abruptly after Manda says she’s fine to keep playing, but there’s nothing after that. The next episode is just Little Fears with the guest players, and the one after that is recorded live with Matt, Nate, Manda, and Sam.

Exile Villify was two sessions mashed up, but it was the last of the Mayor storyline followed by George’s confessions. I think “Everything is Fucked” got lost somewhere…

Though, if I’m missing something obvious, please let me know. As it is I came into this game feeling very lost.

      3. I also couldn’t find the scene with Manny sleeping in the snow. It was nowhere to be found on any of the three previous episodes. I would ask if there was any way you guys could still upload the missing piece; but its been such long time since the “Exile Vilify” that its probably long gone. Its a shame because it sounds like that was a really interesting part.
Sucks, but what can ya do.

Once you shake off the confusion of the time skip though its a good episode.

  3. “Manny, you’re my best friend, and I respect you, but you would look good in a dress.” Manda: please draw how uncomfortable Manny would look if his friends managed to get him in a dress.
There’s this one place in Saint Cloud, Minnesota called Val’s. BEST FRIES THE THE FUCKING WORLD. I went there with my dad when I was fourteen. They have two fry sizes: regular and large. I was starving. But my dad WOULDN’T LET ME GET A LARGE. And for very good reason: I got one burger, a sleeve of fries. THEN THEY FUCKING FILLED THE BAG HALFWAY UP WITH THE HOTTEST FRIES IN THE GODDAMN WORLD. Even better than McDonalds’.
I was really expecting Scott to do the eagle-boy-extraordinaire screech when that guy was creeping up.
    Spider bites are the worst.
